One knife style. A short list of destinations.
Restrictions on knives tend to attach to a style — an automatic, a balisong, a blade mechanism — rather than to your catalog as a whole. Which styles and which destinations is a question for current law and your own review. Selling one restricted model shouldn't mean policing every order by hand.
Style-level rules, not catalog-level rules
Whatever your own review of current law turns up, the practical shape is the same for a seller: a catalog of 200 knives may have three models you need to hold back from a handful of destinations. Check current law — federal as well as state, and note that the two layers do not always draw the same line — for your specific styles, then keep the list enforceable in one place.
How sellers handle it on Shopify
Tag restricted styles (for example auto-otf), one rule per style group, checkout enforces it. The rest of the catalog ships everywhere, untouched.
Common questions
Does blocking by state cover county or city knife laws?
ShipEmbargo blocks at the state and country level. If your own review identifies a restriction narrower than a state, you decide whether to block the whole state — the app can't express anything smaller.
Can I block international destinations too?
Yes — rules can block countries as well as US states.
